Not just another barbecue joint, 492 BBQ Trenton offers a savory menu spotlighting a variety of quality meats and delicious appetizers. As a reviewer, it’s a rarity to come across a place that gets the fundamentals right. Appetizers like Fajita Nachos ($13) and Brisket Fries ($12) lay the foundation for what to expect here. Yet, it’s the main courses that truly delve into the heart of the BBQ experience. Take a bite out of the standout Half Pound Brisket ($15), which can be served moist or lean, showcasing the magic of slow cooking using mesquite wood. It's a cut so sublime that it stands effortlessly on its own, requiring little more than salt and smoke.

But the menu doesn’t stop there. The tantalizing Plate #9, offering a quarter leg paired with two meats for $21, is perfect for those who can’t choose just one option. Customer favorites like the Short Ribs and Pulled Pork also make appearances, often leaving diners raving about the 'fall-off-the-bone' tenderness that is immensely satisfying.

The allure of 492 BBQ Trenton extends beyond just the meats. Patrons have raved about their sides, with in-house Mac and Cheese that stands out as a crowd pleaser. The Green Beans sautéed with butter and onion are recommended for their distinct homemade flavor, making it a worthy companion to any meat platter.

What truly sets this establishment apart is its ambiance and service. Despite being located in a mall, diners find the atmosphere welcoming; a clean, well-lit space paired with attentive staff. Guests often commend the friendly servers who go above and beyond, showcasing a commitment to elevating the dining experience.

As I reflect on what makes 492 BBQ Trenton stand out in the competitive Texas barbecue scene, it’s clear that their dedication to quality—from the meats to the sides—combined with the warm and inviting service creates a dining experience that lingers long after the last bite. All the reviews echo a similar tune: this is a place where barbecue dreams materialize. In this culinary haven, every meal is a celebration of flavors that underscores the craftsmanship of BBQ done right. So gather your friends and family, and prepare for an unforgettable feast.

Restaurant is located on a small mall and the smell of barbecue that hits you once you walk in is stuff from heavens. I like that they set up a big sink for hand washing near the restrooms - something necessary for hand held food. The staff was attentive to our questions and requests. They recommended the short ribs, brisket and the green beans. We also got pulled pork and some coleslaw. Everything was really good but the short ribs are amazing. I would say even get a double order. The green beans are made on butter with onions also great. I wish I had pictures but the food was gone in minutes!

I usually don't like the potato salad at any restaurant. Just my homemade , but I like theirs. And every thing else. It's just the best BBQ. I highly recommend it. You wont be disappointed.

I've asked the question before, but it bears repeating: "Is it even possible to get 'bad' barbecue in the state of Texas?" Every time I'm back in the Lone Star state, I need to get my fix of 'cue since there is some essence that gets lost when the art of "slow and low smoking" of meats leaves the Southwest and migrates East and North of the Mississippi River. And for sure, it's difficult if not damn near impossible to find decent barbecue in the DC area. For an establishment that has been in business for over 15 years (since 2009), 492 BBQ has a criminally low review count. So allow me to add my ringing endorsement for some of the best 'cue you can find in the Rio Grande Valley. 492 is a not a fancy restaurant with tile flooring and multiple dining areas which have various seating configurations. But the place is clean and well lit, which is always appreciated. I was warmly greeted by the hostess and shown to a table, where my friendly server Christina suggested the three meat platter. Any good TX 'cue joint is judged on by one cut of meat and that is of course, brisket. The brisket at 492 is superior! There is a thick bark resulting from hours of slow cooking over mesquite wood coals. And you won't need any of the slightly sweet sauce on the table, since any good brisket can stand on it's own with just salt, pepper, and smoke. The ribs were also tasty, although I slightly preferred the pork vs. the beef short rib cut. Both the pork and beef ribs were "fall of the bone" tender, but perhaps I just like the texture and taste from the fattier pork. Both versions were still darn good. Sides were delicious...of course. The Mac and cheese was made in-house and from scratch ingredients. It was creamy, well seasoned, and didn't have that artificial taste or weird fluorescent color from box mixes. I'm glad I went with Christina's recommendation and tried the rice/beans combo. I've not sampled something like this, but the slow cooked pinto beans were added atop fluffy rice to make an almost "stew like" dish with pieces of meat mixed in. Really good! Service was attentive throughout the meal with water glasses being filled when empty, and take home boxes offered since there was waay too much food to be consumed at one sitting. My 3 meat sampler, with just water and no dessert, came to about $28 with tax and tip. A bargain really since I had the other half of the meal for lunch the next day.

I'm a bbq snob and it takes a lot to impress me. 492 BBQ exceeded my expectations greatly. The baby back ribs were smoked perfectly - fall off the bone tender with a wonderful 'bark' full of flavor. In fact, I'd rate these in the top ten ribs I have ever had in a barbecue restaurant...and I've eaten ribs hundreds of times across the USA in a 60 year period. And one other thing - their roasted corn on the cob was absolutely spectacular. Smoky and flavorful and cooked perfectly. Most highly recommended!

Most recently tried the lamb ribs, and they were excellent. I did request that they toast them on the outside and the flavor was bar non-awesome. Also highly recommend the pulled pork and cheddar jalapeño sausage.

The place is really nice and clean. Has a really cool modern look. The staff was kind and quick to service us. The brisket was delicious, but the sides weren't that great. Charro beans and rice were pretty bland. My husband got Mac and cheese and potato salad as his sides and he agreed that his sides were also bland and the meat was delicious.

I've been to Franklin's, Snow's, Black's, Salt Lick and many other BBQ places. 492 BBQ in Edinburgh is one of the best. The food was outstanding, the place was clean and Martha, our server, was excellent. This was our first time here and we will be back soon to test their consistency.
